The 1stGen@Iowa initiative seeks to inform and educate the campus community, support first-generation students in their academic and career endeavors, and ensure that students ultimately succeed at The University of Iowa.

Iowa TRIO First-Generation Celebration
Thursday, November 5, 2020 from 12:00 pm- 1:30 pm

Hosted by Iowa TRIO for TRIO SSS students

Iowa TRIO invites TRIO SSS students to attend this National First-Generation College Celebration event with guest speaker Tamam Waritu. National First-Generation College STUDENT Celebration

Hosted by The NASPA Center for First-generation Student Success and the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE)

Join DJ Faro and your first-generation college student peers and champions for this National First-Generation College STUDENT Celebration. Brought to you by the Council for Opportunity in Education and the Center for First-generation Student Success, this will be a fun-filled hour of music, trivia, and prizes. Joint Virtual First-Generation College Celebration

Hosted by The NASPA Center for First-generation Student Success and the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE)

This joint celebration will kick-off with opening remarks from Sarah E. Whitley, Ph.D., assistant vice president, Center for First-generation Student Success and Maureen Hoyler, J.D., president, Council for Opportunity in Education, as well as feature a panel discussion about the history of the first-generation student definition, utilizing an asset-based lens. 2020 First-Generation Awards and Recognition Ceremony

On behalf of the UI First-Generation Task Force, all students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend this year's ceremony, which will feature the presentation of the 2020 1stGen@Iowa Awards.This year's keynote address will be given by Dr. Shaun Vecera. Dr. Vecera, who identified as a first-generation college student, is a Professor & Herman J. and Eileen S. Schmidt Chair in Psychological and Brain Sciences at The University of Iowa.
