The 1stGen@Iowa initiative supports first-gen students by building awareness of and celebrating the first-gen identity. For example, this initiative sponsors such things as:
- 1stGen@Iowa Awards and the Annual 1stGen@Iowa Awards & Recognition Ceremony,
- First-generation graduation cords,
- On Iowa! First Gen Fest,
- Annual National First-Generation College Celebration Week activities,
- 1stGen@Iowa Mentor Network,
- 1stGen@Iowa Student Advisory Board,
- 1stGen@Iowa Faculty and Staff Collaborative,
- 1stGen@Iowa provides leadership for and collaborates with partners across campus within the larger institutional First-Gen Student Success network of support for first-gen students.
- 1stGen@Iowa delivers professional development opportunities for faculty and staff. Additionally, we have also coordinated and participated in t-shirt giveaways, swag giveaways, panel discussions, alumni events, campus partnerships, and so much more!
If you are interested in contributing towards 1stGen@Iowa's campus-wide efforts to build awareness of celebrate the first-gen identity or provide training to faculty and staff on how to better support first-gen students, monetary gifts may be submitted electronically through the UI Center for Advancement by clicking here. Give to First Gen Hawks
First Gen Hawks is a formal program designed to provide new first-generation students with a unique way to engage in activities that enhance the college experience within and beyond the classroom through experiential learning opportunities.
