EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

IS LEARNING BY DOING, with a hands-on, reflective approach to education where students gain knowledge, skills, and meaning through direct experience. Rather than learning only through lectures and readings, students actively engage in real-world tasks, solve problems, and reflect on their actions to deepen understanding.

IN THE SPRING SEMESTER, students will take a one-credit hour course that will connect them with the university in a meaningful way through one of three experience learning options: Career Design EssentialsUndergraduate Research, or Leadership & Engagement.

LEADERSHIP & ENGAGEMENT:

BE A LEADER

As a First Gen Hawk, you can actively engage and make a difference in our community. Students will be encouraged to participate in activities and organizations within the Office of Leadership, Service, and Civic Engagement, to serve our community.

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH:

CONNECT WITH FACULTY & DISCOVER RESEARCH

At the University of Iowa, research is happening all around us. Partnering with the Office of Undergraduate Research, students from every major can work closely with faculty as they answer complex questions regarding their scholarly work and make exciting new discoveries. Students who are hoping to learn more about a specific topic within their major, gain skills needed to pursue their academic dreams, or are hoping to build connections with faculty, undergraduate research is an invaluable experience for any Hawkeye.

Explore their interests, values, strengths, and goals to better understand who they are and where they want to go. Partnering with the Pomerantz Career Center, students will gain the tools to make informed decisions, build professional connections, and create a personalized action plan for their academic and career journey.
