Jacinda Bunch
I am a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa College of Nursing, where I teach courses on nursing leadership, quality, and patient safety. My professional background spans bedside nursing, nursing administration, and academic teaching. I also co-lead Simulation in Motion – Iowa, a mobile simulation program that strengthens emergency response training for rural communities across the state.
I support students in areas such as leadership development, teamwork, and navigating transitions into professional nursing roles. My expertise includes patient safety, rapid response systems, simulation-based education, and improving care in rural and underserved settings. As a first-generation college graduate myself, I understand the unique challenges of higher education and am passionate about helping students develop confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging.
Outside of teaching and SIM-IA, I volunteer as an EMT and serve as Service Director for Oxford First Responders, helping provide emergency care in my community. I’m also a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner in Johnson County, caring for patients in the emergency room when I’m on call. At home, life is lively — my husband and youngest 2 daughters and I share our house with five dogs and we’re raising chickens again this year. We’re fortunate to be able to spend time with our older daughters and their families as well. In my free time, I enjoy crocheting, playing video games, reading, and exploring local communities.
