Hi! My name is Kristen Stradt-Johnson and I'm so glad you're visiting this page to find out what great resources we have for first-generation college students. Although neither of my parents went to college, I knew early on that I wanted to go - however, with little resources I felt completely lost. I remember starting my senior year of high school and realizing that everyone had it "all figured out" and I had no idea where to start. I didn't end up deciding where I was going to go until the end of my senior year of high school. To make a long story short, I made it all the way through college without knowing what it meant to be "first generation" and it wasn't until I was working in a TRIO Student Support Services program at a community college that I realized there was a huge number of students, just like me, who were trying to attend college but didn't have the "college knowledge" they needed. Now, I've been working in higher education for ten years and I love supporting these students in ways I wish I would've been supported.
