Jennifer Barr

Senior Scientific Editor and Writing Consultant, College of Medicine Administration
Biography

Although I was not a first-gen student, I found I often lacked a support system to provide advice, guidance, and mentoring during my undergraduate years. I’ve since discovered that realizing and fulfilling your passions can be a daunting task, but that there are many people willing to help if you only know where to find them. My passion for understanding biological concepts led me to study molecular biology/immunology in graduate school. However, for a variety of reasons I always knew I didn’t want to run my own laboratory. It wasn’t until late in my graduate career that I realized scientific editing was a career I could pursue, and something I enjoyed. With the guidance and advice from some exceptional mentors, I was able to pursue this as a career. This allows me to combine my love of science with my passion for clear writing and helping others. On a personal level, my husband and I have two young boys that keep us busy. We are looking forward to helping them navigate their own college journey in the future.
