Advice To First-Gen Students: Do not be afraid of pursuing something new! You’re only going to get out of your college experience what you put in, therefore reaching out of your comfort zone, and exploring is a necessity. This is the time in your life to figure out who you really are and what you are most passionate about. Personally, I saw more growth in myself in my four years of college than I did in my 18 years back home. Getting involved in things that make you happiest will ultimately lead to new opportunities that you had never considered. Next, I would emphasize that one should become involved on campus. There is something for everyone at the University of Iowa. This institution allows for a student to have a voice on campus and be actively involved in something that is bigger than oneself. In the end, college can be the greatest four years of your life, but you must be proactive in finding the experiences that will make it a once in a lifetime opportunity.
