I am a University of Iowa Alumna. I was entirely self-supporting and had a Pell Grant. Despite my limitations, I still managed to go abroad, during my time at UI. Currently, I specialize in Internships abroad and study abroad. I am an ambassador for the Gilman Scholarship (reserved for students with Pell Grants.) My specialty area with Gilman is helping students who have gotten to college through the support of the community they came from, (whether that is their extended family, a church community, or a neighborhood, find ways to make an opportunity abroad that is affordable and something those support communities can see as worth doing. There are affordable, practical way to get you abroad. It is easier, however, with someone there to guide you through the process.
