Camille Socarras

Director of the Writing and Humanities Program, Carver College of Medicine
Biography
Hi! I direct the Writing and Humanities Program at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine where I focus on the role of literature, reflection, and storytelling in medical education and clinical care. I work with students on everything from personal statements and research papers to creative writing projects, and oversee opportunities such as the Humanities Distinction Track, helping students explore how the arts and humanities deepen empathy, strengthen professional identity, and illuminate the complexities of health and healing. One of my favorite parts of this work is engaging in meaningful conversations with students—hearing about their interests and working together to turn those ideas into something tangible.

Outside of work, I enjoy nature-y things, eating, baking, learning about cool things, sleeping, and eating some more.
