Associate Director, Academic Support & Retention
Biography

Hello! I am an Associate Director in Academic Support and Retention here at the University of Iowa. In my role on campus, I coordinate campus-wide initiatives to support students' success. My work is focused on three main areas: First-Year Seminars, the 1stGen@Iowa initiative (a campus-wide initiative to support and celebrate first-gen students), and work related to college readiness where I partner with various entities within and external to the university to help prepare all of Iowa's students for college. Within this capacity, one of my biggest responsibilities is serving as the university's liaison to the GEAR UP Iowa Advisory Council. I can also often be found partnering with the TRIO programs on campus, often teaching with TRIO Student Support Services and TRIO Upward Bound. I earned both my BBA in management and MA in educational policy and leadership studies from the University of Iowa.

If you're a student who needs help with time management, study skills, goal-setting, or just trying to figure out how to navigate college and all the decisions you're trying to make, I'm here to help you! I was a first-gen student and a transfer student and will be happy to talk with students about my experiences and share what I've learned.

I've lived in the Iowa City area almost my entire life and grew up on a farm not far from here. I've been working at the University of Iowa for over 20 years, have two kids and three cats, and I'm married to a high school science teacher. You can also ask me about these experiences as well....or try to stump me by naming a small town in Iowa you think I haven't heard of. I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
