Biography

I am a Departmental Administrator in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Originally from Detroit, I moved to Iowa City in 2011 to attend the Iowa Writers' Workshop for poetry. I attended the University of Michigan as an undergrad, where I majored in English with a sub-concentration in Creative Writing. As an undergraduate, I worked as a student employee, which later helped me in pursuing a position in library administration after graduating from the University of Iowa. From there, I shifted to a home in the humanities in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, where I've been ever since. As a low income first-gen student myself, I am familiar with the uncertainty that first-gen students face, from navigating selecting courses to applying for financial aid to finding a job on campus to understanding all of the various campus resources. It's important to me to use the knowledge I've gained as both a student and now a staff member at the University of Iowa to help other first-gen students navigate their way their own way to a successful college experience.
