Jorge Ramos

Assistant Professor of Spanish Sociolinguistics
Biography

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. I am a sociolinguist by training. I am involved in teaching courses about, and researching topics related to, attitudes towards language and how language relates to society (sociolinguistics). I have a long history with the University of Iowa, having done my undergraduate (and early graduate) studies here. I was involved in various parts of student life during my years as a student, and have mentored students at various stages throughout my career, both in terms of career planning, access to resources on campus, among others. I am committed to uplifting students and our (local) communities.
