Megan Riley
My name is Megan Riley and I am an Iowa City native (Go City High Little Hawks!), but took some time away from Iowa for about 10 years after college where I lived in various parts of the country developing my career in Student Services under the umbrella of Office of the Registrar at a couple of institutions. This gave me the opportunity to see how university-level offices, particularly academic regulations and policies and institutional communications and publications, can impact student success. In 2017 I returned to Iowa where I joined the Department of Epidemiology as the Graduate Program Coordinator. My mission with my work is to do my best to have the back of my students and our faculty. There are so many barriers, many of which are unintentional, that impact student success and I strive to help our community members navigate those challenges. Whether it's the hidden curriculum struggles in graduate school, or being able to meet faculty and students where they are at in a constantly evolving higher ed landscape, my top priority is to make sure that all of our students are able to find success and satisfaction in their graduate programs. I am always looking for ways to improve how it is we do things in our department which does not happen without open dialogue with our students, faculty, and staff. This is a place on campus where we want people to feel seen, heard, and valued, and this is at the forefront of how I approach my work.
