Juliann Gibson

Catering Sales and Wedding Coordinator, University Catering
Biography

Hi! I'm Juliann, I have a husband and three pups and love to travel and be involved. In addition to working at the University, I am also a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters and a Board Member for Summer of the Arts. During my undergrad (I was a first generation student, just like you), I started on the nursing track and became a CNA but found I did not love the nursing field as much as I thought I did and knew I needed to change majors, the only problem was I had no idea what I wanted to do in place of nursing. Thankfully I had an incredible advisor that worked with me and helped me create a plan to find a major that I was interested in. With her guidance, I ended up double majoring in Enterprise Leadership and Spanish and have a certificate in event planning and she is still a mentor to me to this day. I found having a mentor was so beneficial when I was feeling lost, which is why I would love to support anyone that needs guidance. I was also heavily involved in student organizations and programs on campus (CAB, On Iowa, Homecoming Council, Dance Marathon) which truly helped me to find my passion. I also studied aboard in Spain for a semester and was part of two different programs where I did service trips in Ecuador and throughout the US. These roles alone taught me a lot about leadership, being part of a team, organization, communication and flexibility which are all strengths I use in my current role planning events, working with students and coordinating with departments. Please reach out if you would like to talk or need any guidance, I would be more than happy to talk with you!
